Although I enjoyed my travels immensely, I am so grateful to be back on the North Shore after 5 weeks away from my home and family, and everything that I know to be so comfortable and love.

I went to India for 4 weeks to study kundalini yoga (the yoga of awareness) at an ashram in with many master teachers and 153 students from 29 different countries. We had an amazing time learning the philosophy of yoga and how to teach kundalini yoga.  I have many photos and stories to share, so  I am going to just share some of my adventures a little bit at a time so that it is not overwhelming.

We stayed in the small town of Rishikesh, nestled at the foothills of the Himalayas.  It was a beautiful town, well known for its yoga community, great shopping and delicious Indian and Ayurvedic food.  There were monkeys in the trees and elephants in the hills.  The Ganges River is relatively clean in Rishikesh, as it flows freshly from the snow of the Himalayan Mountains.  We bathed in the river, also known as the Mata Ganga (Mother Ganges) at 3:30 AM a handful of times before our morning sadhana (daily meditation) at 4AM. It felt refreshing and was a powerful way to start the day, getting our blood circulating quickly and activating our glandular system.

One of the exciting things I did while I was in India (besides lots of yoga) was to touch a cobra snake.  I was shopping for some gifts when I saw a snake charmer on the street in Delhi.  He told me his father had taken the venom out of its fangs after he found the cobra in the jungle.  The snake was being handled by the charmer and it didn’t seem bothered, so I gave it a try…

Thanksgiving is almost upon us, which indicates the wrapping up of 2012! I hope all of you have had bountiful harvests this fall, with the starfruit, ulu (breadfruit), apples, avocados…and much more. I do love the feeling of the rapidly-approaching holiday season and all of the delicious meals to be shared with loved ones!

As we approach the coldest time of the year, I’m preparing for the Haleiwa Farmer’s Market in Waimea Valley tomorrow, November 15. Stop by the Pikake Pavilion in Waimea tomorrow from 3-7PM for some early holiday shopping and perhaps some dinner with family and friends…

I love FE Kailua! Their pieces are very easy to wear, casual or dressy, and super comfortable!  I always end up buying at least 1 thing when I go in to drop off more jewelry with them. My jewelry pieces match very well with the clothes in Fighting Eel we both have a simple and elegant style)…so it’s a very good excuse for me to update my wardrobe:)  Hopefully some of you can make it to Fighting Eel this weekend!

One of our first visitors of the day was my good friend Tiff- she and I were roommates in a cute home in Waialua together back in 2007- before babies were even a figment of our imaginations…We both decided we were ready to make our careers happen and we were going to make them happen on the North Shore!  We’ve seen each other go through some big challenges, and been supportive all the way through.  I’m happy to be of assistance on her upcoming adventure of motherhood…as much as possible that is…motherhood is kinda crazy sometimes:)

Tiff arrived just as my assistant Nicole and I were finished getting our setup ready for the day.  All the displays were set in place at eye level, and sturdy. My sweet boyfriend Dusty brought some lovely flowers and plants to beautify our setup, and all of my new jewelry creations were ready to be shown!

We created our own chic setup in the tent to show the beachy lifestyle that Noelani Designs jewelry represents.

These are some of my newest styles of earrings, which include hand-forged and hammered hoops. It’s quite a process, as each piece of gold starts out as a straight piece of wire, which I then bend, solder together (using a butane torch), shape into a perfect circle, and then hammer to give texture and shine.  It’s alchemy! Many customers left more than satisfied with their purchases.  It was great to see all of the returning happy faces from the previous year’s festivals.  My friend Barbara (who is a wonderful photographer by the way- check out her work at www.barbarakraft.com ) purchased a few rings with her friend Pheidra and left the booth smiling, but not before I snapped a couple of photos of them in their new purchases!

You can stack the rings like these women did, or you can wear them singularly. Either way they are elegant and simple! I wear mine in the ocean all the time, and they don’t corrode or turn your skin green!

The day continued on with beautiful sunny skies and occasional cloud cover, which made for a beautiful setting.  Nicole and I worked hard to keep up with all of the customers, making sure they were happy and informed, and we stayed hydrated in the heat.

Towards the late afternoon, my boyfriend Dusty came to help us take down the jewelry for the day and brought us some juice and watermelon to refuel.

Dusty and Nicole took a little break to show off their dance moves. Nicole is an expert at dancing with a watermelon rind in her mouth…

The sun was beating down hard on us by the end of the day and we were ready for a dip in the ocean!

Nicole and I ended up jumping in Waimea afterwards to rinse off all the grime from the day and to refresh our bodies!

That wraps up our Saturday…good fun, good sales, good ocean time!

On Sunday, Heather helped me out with setup and sales.  We were busy bees!

We had a visit from Stan Matsumoto, the owner of Matsumoto Shave Ice!

One of our greatest customers, Mr. Matsumoto. He always buys jewelry for his good lady friends in Japan. He knows how to make them happy with Noelani Designs Jewelry!

Christina (on the right) is a famous model in Japan, and she always wears her Noelani jewelry!

My good friend and fellow bodyboarder Amber stopped in to get a gift for her boyfriend’s mom. She also got a new Noelani Designs hat, and gifted me some of my favorite soap, Indigenous! Little did she know, one of my best friends Love Chance is the owner and makes her soaps with all natural ingredients and essential oils. It’s the best soap ever!

Finally…Heather and I have a moment to rest with no customers!

Heather and I had a great time working together, hustling between customers and making sure to help everyone as much as possible.  She has been working as my assistant for 2 years now and she knows the ropes, and our customers just love her:) Thanks Heather!

Once things slowed down a bit, I decided to take a walk around to see some of my fellow artist friends in their booths.

I found my good friend and fellow mommy Erin Delventhal in her booth at her first ever Haleiwa Arts Festival. Erin makes beautiful oil paintings of North Shore lifestyle images.  I didn’t get a picture with her because she was busy helping a customer (yay!), but you can see her amazing work here at BackyardsStudio.com.

One of my favorite fellow sea maidens is oil painter Kimi Werner…her booth was challenging to find, but once I found her, I was in awe of her new paintings from a recent trip to Tahiti.  Kimi is a world-famous spear-diver and one of the best!

Kimi and I met up after the festival for some underwater shots at Waimea Bay  as inspiration for her next painting…here’s a preview of the possibilities.

We’ve just gotten some new sunrise shells!!! These beauties are ONLY found on the North Shore of Oahu and Kauai and are extremely unique and captivating. These shells in particular are stunning in quality and of varying sizes. Some are the biggest I’ve ever seen.
